Reality Check - A Critical Look at What the United States Has Become - Part I Monologues
When I chose this topic, I was thinking of all the failures of the Bush regime and how the rest of the world resents the undue influence of the United States. I ended up going in another direction. Turns out we're still number 1! We have the highest healthcare costs, most people imprisoned, export more arms, have more people without health insurance and highest level of poverty of any of the developed countries. I'm still seething that the Democrats haven't had the courage to end the war with Iraq. . . . back to my notes on this show. Gary Gordon, a musician, writer, political activist and former mayor of Gainesville Florida ( http://garygordonproductions.com/) opened the show. Gary is not a comedian but is a very interesting writer and thought provoking. Jason Stuart ( http://jasonstuart.com/) is an openly gay actor/comedian who talks about homophobia, hypocrisy and discrimination. Humorist and radio commentator Laurie Buckley brings her unique perspective to the show and talks about how the United States has become a country composed of addictions. Dave Dayen ( DaveDayen.com) is a performer and writer with a liberal blog which is updated daily. His bottom line is "We Need to Vote!"
The panel discussion was lively and eventually got to the point where there was a concensus that we are responsible for changing the direction of the United States. (My personal opinion is that the United States has lost it's relevance to the modern world and is more powerful and heavyhanded than is healthy). The bottom line- only voting out these corporate whores from both parties and ending the corruption caused by big money will restore the United States to the role of respect and leadership it once enjoyed. VOTE!
